Late equaliser thwarts Rooks - again

22/8/09

File (Embeded) - St Albans v Lewes Aug 09 Crabb goal

Lewes conceded another late equaliser this afternoon against St Albans, when they should have secured all three points.

After a first half which saw Dan Beck go close with a lob once he broke clear of the defence, neither side offered much until the second half.

Sam Crabb put Lewes ahead in the 67th minute after poking home David Wheeler's cross at the near post and he could have doubled the lead two minutes later but scuffed his shot with just the keeper Paul Bastock to beat.

Sub Scott Kirkwood had a great chance to add a second after scampering free from the halfway line, but Bastock pushed the ball away and Lewes were punished two minutes into injury time when sub Mark Peters headed past Banks to draw level.

Lewes sub Louis Pople had a glorious opportunity to mark his league debut appearance with a goal after breaking free of his marker, but he snatched at the shot and saw it drift agonisingly wide.
