Ibbitson laments Lewes naivety
30/8/09
Lewes manager Steve Ibbitson wasn’t too happy after the visit of Woking to the Dripping Pan yesterday.
He said “I’m very, very disappointed with the performance."
"The result is also disappointing but the more disappointing is the performance and the fact that we didn’t have the guts to play and compete as we should have done after the first 20 minutes.”
“There were four or five occasions in the first half when we went from what could have been a goal scoring opportunity for us to five seconds later, when we’re 3 v 2 in their favour at the back.”
“They broke very well but we defended our attacking set pieces very naively.”
“They closed the game out, and played the long ball at 1-0 which they were happy to do. We got dragged into it and we started to do the same.”
“We didn’t have courage to keep trying to play football as that was only way we were going to back into the game.”
Ibbitson felt that the visitors would have had a very pleasing afternoon. “Woking do what they do very well,” he said. “They’re a good side on the break with very quick players.”
“Woking will be very satisfied with their afternoon and I would think that it went exactly as they planned.”
“We played poorly today, and we’re looking for a better performance against Bromley on Monday.”
