Lewes drew 1-1 with south coast neighbours Weymouth this afternoon in the Blue Square South curtain raiser.

The Rooks were the dominant side and manager Steve Ibbitson might well reflect on an afternoon in which he could have justifiably secured all three points.

Weymouth took the lead in the 61st minute against the run of play when Matt Cooper's powerful shot squeezed between the bar and Lewes keeper Rikki Banks outstretched hands.

Weymouth were in front for only a minute however, following Dan Beck's side footed volley past Ryan Harrison which seemed to take a deflection along the way.

Lewes pushed on and came close on a number of occasions, with Chris Breach's late header from a corner being the best opportunity, but the honours ended even following an entertaining match.
