Lee walks for Lewes...again
13/7/09
Not content with walking from the Dripping Pan to Withdean and back last December to raise money for the Rooks, loyal Lewes supporter Lee Cobb is doing it again - only this time it's a little bit further.
Next month, Lee, and his sons Will and Luke, are going to embark on a mammoth sponsored walk along the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne, a distance of approximately 100 miles.
Lee raised nearly £1500 last year on his walk with fellow supporter Jason Foulkes, and he felt that given the financial problems the club is still facing, it was time to have another go.
"I'm actually treating it as a bit of a holiday for me and the boys to be honest," he said, looking forward to his trip which he hopes to compete in nine days. "We will be doing it properly, camping every night and walking around 10 miles a day."
"Having said that, when we reach Ditchling Beacon, my wife said she'd collect us and we can have a night at home which by that stage I'm sure will be very welcome, especially as she's pledged to cook us something hearty to eat!"
The route takes on extra significance with the announcement of the new South Downs National Park earlier this year, which will mean that Lewes FC is the largest football club of any National Park in the country.
Lee, Will and Luke plan to leave Winchester on Monday 17th August and will be keeping the website and Fans Forum updated with their progress. As they near the end, they are happy to share the remaining miles with any other supporters who wish to join them to ease the burden.
Anyone willing to sponsor Lee can call him to pledge money on 07736065668, and he's also happy to take pledges from supporters once the walk commences. Lee will be at the Dripping Pan for the pre-season friendlies and the opening fixture against Weymouth, so if you want to sponsor him, seek him out inside the entrance to the Philcox Stand.
Everyone at the club is very grateful to Lee and his sons for volunteering to do this sponsored walk, so let's all get behind them and see how much they can raise for the club.
