England duo get off to a winning start
06/3/09
Matt Whitehead and David Wheeler earned their first England caps last night as England Schools beat Wales 3-0 in the Carnegie Centenary Shield at Boston FC.
David played the full ninety minutes whilst Matt came on as a substitute replacing captain Tom Chapman just before half time. Both players produced good performances with Whitehead responsible for a pinpoint cross into the area that led to England's final goal.
No other club in the country is represented by two players this season, and Matt & David are also joined by James Norwood from Eastbourne Town, and Simon Johnson from Eastbourne Borough, who all spoke of their pride pulling on the England jersey.
David said "It was an amazing feeling. I was really nervous but managed to control it." Matt added, "The atmosphere was awesome. I'm only 16 so coming on was an absolute dream for me."
The lads are next in action against Northern Ireland on March 27 at Macclesfield Town FC.
