Wrexham win on Dripping Pan debut
07/2/09
Wrexham returned to Wales this evening with three points but a dogged Lewes performance ensured that they earned every one of them.
The Rooks put the disappointment of Wednesday night's Senior Cup exit behind them and made play-off chasing Wrexham look very ordinary for much of this match. Lewes failed to make the most of their limited chances though, and held out until the 68th minute when Marc Williams headed home Jon Brown's corner.
With the home side busy chasing the equalizer, Wes Baynes took advantage of space at the back, cutting inside before unleashing a shot past keeper Rikki Banks to secure the win, which saw the Dragons rise to fifth place.
After the match, Wrexham manager Dean Saunders said "I was pleased the game was on, but after 40 minutes I wished that the game was off. Lewes had a right go and it was a really difficult game for us." Report
