Rooks narrowly defeated by the Stags
24/1/09
Lewes' losing run stretched into their sixth BS Premier match this afternoon with a narrow defeat against Mansfield Town.
Stags' debutant Paul Mayo put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute although towards the end of the match, they were holding on as Lewes threatened to deliver a late equaliser.
The Rooks fielded a makeshift side as injuries and suspensions meant that over half the recognised first team was missing. Shaun Wilkinson and Sam Fisk made assured debuts alongside U18 player Grant Hall who made his league debut, although new loan signing Guy Butters was ruled out with injury.
Speaking after the match, Lewes manager Kevin Keehan said he was disappointed with the result but not the performance."In the end they were hanging on and with a little bit of luck we might have got something out the game. Elliott Charles was a real handful but nothing really fell for him or Josh. We were in the ascendancy and they were holding on." Report
Lewes next entertain Torquay United in the BS Premier on Tuesday night, kick off 7.45pm.
