A controversial penalty was all that separated Eastbourne Borough and Lewes at Priory Lane this afternoon.

In an untidy match devoid of much excitement, Danny Cullip was adjudged to have pulled down on-loan striker Ashley Barnes in the area after 29 minutes.

Paul Armstrong saw his penalty saved by Rikki Banks, but the Lewes keeper was unable to keep out Armstrong's follow up that gave Eastbourne a half time lead which they barely deserved.

Lewes never seriously threatened after the break and Michael Standing's substitution through injury did little to raise any festive cheer amongst the travelling Lewes fans in a crowd of 2216.
