30/10/11 - Rooks 3:0 Enfield Town
South East Combination League leaders Lewes overcame Enfield 3-0 to move five points clear at the top of the table.
Two goals from Naomi Cole and one from Jo Gardiner saw off the hosts who played the second half with 10 players after defender Claire Gooch was dismissed for handball on the line.
This fixture has historically been the toughest of Lewes' league calendar and manager Jacquie Agnew made it clear to her team that this would not be the stroll they have enjoyed in recent weeks.
So it proved as the game got off to a frantic start with neither team allowing the other to settle. Lewes lost Charlotte Bennett to a serious ankle injury on the half hour mark and she was replaced by Andreia Veiga.
Enfield's best chance was a low cross to the far post however the attacker hit her shot straight at Lewes keeper Layla Young. Lewes too found space down the flanks and made a number of forays into the final third without creating clear cut chances.
Finally a 43rd minute goalmouth scramble ended in Lewes captain Kelly Newton's shot being handled on the line by Claire Gooch, and the Enfield defender was dismissed before Cole stepped up to give her side a narrow lead at the break.
At times in the second half the one player advantage was hardly noticeable as Enfield piled forward in an attempt to equalise, though as time wore on Lewes started to find more possession and space.
Holly Grogan rattled the cross bar with a brilliant volley before Player of the Match Cole grabbed her second on 75 minutes with a low drive. Two minutes later Gardiner killed off the game with Lewes' third, swivelling smartly in the box to volley a loose ball past the keeper.
