25/9/11 - Rooks 13:1 Old Actonians

Lewes continued their storming start to the season with an 13-1 demolition of Acton at the Dripping Pan on Sunday in a game sponsored by Steve Cameron.

New loan signing Naomi Cole’s shot just outside the area on 5 minutes got proceedings underway after a great run down the right hand side from Jo Gardiner and lay back from Veiga.

Cole was again involved with goal number two and her neat pass found Charlotte Bennett who dribbled the ball in before slotting a low drilled shot on 12 minutes.

A succession of 3 goals followed within an 8 minute period and Veiga’s cool chip and nicely placed shot took the score up to 5 before winger Jo Gardiner forcefully drilled shot found the back of the net for number 6.

However a mix up at the back and indecision between the centre half’s and the Lewes Goalkeeper saw the Rooks concede only their 3rd goal in this campaign as Acton squeezed the ball home.

Acton then had their best period of the game until a Bennett cross found Holly Grogan who after a number of attempts found her first goal from short range on 38 mins.

She again popped up with a well taken 7th before Bennett finished off the first half when Veiga picked out a great pass between their defence for Lewes to lead 8 v 1 at half time.

The second half was a similar affair as Acton tired and Lewes got stronger. Millie York and Kiera Chapman were brought on to freshen things up with Naomi replacing Veiga up front.

An OG after pressure from Kelly Newton and 2 more shots outside the area saw Holly Grogan get her 3rd and 4th goals, although to be fair she could have had so many more.

Naomi then picked up a neat pass from Newton before slotted home into the top corner for her second and the final goal went to player of the match Bennett who’s determined run finishing off with a well placed shot.

Head of Development Dave Cole was pleased with the result but wants his side to be more efficient and disciplined with their possession commenting: ’We didn’t fully apply ourselves today, the players know they didn’t play to their full potential and at times we were sloppy but they are the sort that don’t need to be told and I’m sure they will up their game next week.’
