17/9/11 - Rooks 1:4 Chertsey
The Rooks' involvement in the FA Cup ended at the first hurdle courtest of Evo-Stik Central Southern side Chertsey Town 4-1.
There was no hiding place for Steve King's players in a performance more reminiscent of recent seasons rather than recent weeks.
Lewes went behind as early as the seventh minute when, following a flash of thunder and crack of lightning, the unmarked Phil Page powered a header past Stuart Robinson from a corner.
With the rain increasing in intensity, Matt Somner‘s diving header brought Lewes level, but a virtual carbon copy goal from Page minutes later put Town back into the lead.
The Lewes fans were hoping for some of the comeback spirit from the previous game at Tooting, but this soon disappeared when Lewis Hamilton was sent off for denying a goal-scoring opportunity. Opinions were divided though as to whether his challenge on Dan Bennett, 20 yards out and on the right flank, was intentional or not, but the result was the same and Lewes were down to ten.
Things got worse for Lewes six minutes after the restart when Bennett's shot cannoned off both the bar and the post before bouncing out, but the linesman flagged again, this time to indicate a goal.
The Rooks had no response and fell further behind in the 65th minute when another header, this time from Bennett, easily beat Robinson across the face of goal to end a miserable afternoon for the visitors.
