Sunday 19th March sees Queens Park Rangers Ladies return to the Dripping Pan to face Lewes FC Ladies in the FAWPL South. Last season’s match was a thriller, settled in favour of the visitors by a 90th minute winner from Elly Maggs.
Manager Martino Chavannes will use his side’s precarious league position to motivate his players and will expect a reaction to their loss in the reverse fixture last month. Lewes ran out 2-0 winners at Uxbridge, top scorer Danielle Lane giving the Rookettes the lead, Kellie Larkin sealing the win with a spectacular free kick late in the second half.
Lewes manager John Donoghue has asked his players to put last Sunday’s FAWPL Plate exploits behind them and to focus on this run of league fixtures. ‘I’m pleased for the players that they have a cup final to look forward to, but we need to concentrate on these league matches. Our aim this season is to finish as high up the table as we can.’
Leeta Rutherford should be available after missing the semi-final win at Leicester (cup-tied). Midfield duo Katie McIntyre and Kelly Newton are both fit.
Doors open early at the Dripping Pan on Sunday, at 11:30, for the Incredible Fun Day, match kicks off at 2pm. All gate receipts will go to RISE UK as Lewes FC Ladies honour the women footballers of 1917-21
